Since I’ve realized that I am into The Bohemian Style, it is fair to do a good research. That way I will inform myself as much as I can and give my readers the Best Bohemian Definition. I found out that there is a lot that one can learn about everything Bohemian, but first things first.

Origins of the word

The word “Bohemian” comes from the name of the Celtic tribe, called Boii. This people used to live in the Iron Age and Medieval Europe. They used to live on the lands of today’s Czech Republic. In those old times, there was a word Boiohaemum, for which it is believed that meant “home of the Boii”. The first one who mentioned it was Publius, a historian of the Roman Empire. For the Romans, the Boii were known because of their migrations to other places and settlement in northern Italy. So, in years the name of the land became known as Bohemia, and an inhabitant of it was known as Bohemian.

Bohemian Lifestyle Origin

In Paris, after the French Revolution, a counterculture appeared, and the word “Bohemian” started being used for the people of this counterculture. This people were poor, living nomadic life and all of them were artists and creative souls. This artists become very special and eccentrics, which creativity was expressed in the way they lived and looked.

Their everyday life and the way they wore their clothes made them a piece of art. This new artistic types were compared to Gypsies for which is believed that they come from Bohemia. At that period Gypsy was a term used for Romani people, which migrated all the way from India to the North. For more than 1500 years ago, they started their migrations from northwest India. This migrations lasted for centuries, and they arrived in Kingdom of Bohemia in the 15th century.

Who were the Bohemians

They were nomadic, wandering people who lived outside all the society agreements. They lived in communities. Most often they didn’t have permanent jobs or even homes. Many artists started interacting with the Romani Gypsies, they adapted that free lifestyle, and become known as “Bohemians”.

If there is a short concrete Bohemian definition than it is this:

A wanderer, an artist, a person who lives and acts free of regard for conventional rules and practices. Creative person who is a free-spirited and open-minded thinker.

It has been as an exotic alternative of the fashion style during the years. It is related with creative people, like artists, writers, painters and intellectuals. They usually have flamboyant clothes and historical costumes. This stile of clothing is known as boho chic.
